Apple Tree's --- Stella's !!!

Diva has her tools loaded and ready to dig. Stella's -- apple trees. Mr. Cox's famous apple tree is coming to my yard.

Truck, boots, gloves, raincoat, shovel and buckets.

By the end of the day there will be 4 new tree's in our yard. There is some grumbling from elder #1 -- but I suggested he cut down an older apple tree (it's not producing and loosing lots of debris with every wind) -- so he's already greasing up his chain saw.

I did mention I'd need him to build his fence contraption around the new trees -- didn't grumble to badly on that one!

Chicken Updates....

Ooops....missing chicken. Brown "hairy feet" is awol. After a brief trip to Cleveland -- dropped goodies for the garage sale at Miss Anna's house -- I rounded up the birds and attempted to put them in. Pidgeon and B/W were roosting in the machine shed on an irrigation gun but hairy feet was no where to be found. The other five were a bit more cooperative and headed in -- with a little assistance!

The garage sale is in Cleveland on Mother's Day Weekend. It is a fundraiser for Katie (Anna's mom) who is walking in the 3 day Breast Cancer Walk in August! So come and shop or even donate. Not a lot of clothes but a lot of other "treasures."

Diva forgot to shut the door on the rooster shack. Didn't even think about it until I was backing out of the garage (headed to office at 5:50 am) ....

My goal is to get everything piled in piles in this office done and outta here by I was here until 9:00 last night .... trying for long hours this week..... stinks.

Monday in Divadom

So, it's cold. But it rained.

Diva's chickens were uncooperative last night. So after 15 minutes in the wind and rain. 3 of them, (hawk, hairy foot, and a black/white) spent their 2nd night in a row in the great outdoors -- hawk and hairy foot were in the garden this morning. Black/White was looking in at the others and crowing away.

There was an owl in a tree in the slough along the driveway this morning and of course my camera was at the office. Need to remember to add it to the tote bag. One more thing to drag around with me 24/7.

So it rolls.

Working Weekend....

This Diva worked all weekend long --- at the office. Getting tired of the Pink Room ... need a change of pace. Maybe next weekend I'll be caught up on the numbers enough to enjoy some time away!!!!

2nd Saturday of Freedom

okay on my second saturday of freedom --- I.....

went to the office and worked.....
visited Donna at the hospital (she's looking much perkier)
had a brief nap
and for the finale -- am headed to the Grandview Hilton to visit Grandma

I might actually visit the sewing space before retiring for the evening....

I was going to mark rows in the patch but Dad is turkey hunting and his stand is well, right smack dab in the middle of it.....I think he planned it that way..... all for a tasteless ugly bird.

kevin, teresa and joe in the food line -- gayle is helping serve

the flowers and the wedding portait

mom, dad and the "dress"

Party Pix #1

Anna Kate was enjoying her mint at the party. Mom made mints (the cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, flavoring kind) -- literally hundreds of them and well the mints were a hit.

Miss Anna K is not camera shy!

Happy Wednesday!

Thinking Spring....

So, this is a sprout of some kind (from last year) it'w way to cold for sprouts around here. But the boys planted corn yesterday and from the sound of it will have all of the corn planted by the weekend. A bit early if you ask me.

Here is the old Oliver Tractor getting loaded up for it's final journey. Bought almost new in 1962 -- found it in my search for another picture. My camera chip was pooping out so it's a bit wacky looking.
My project for the balance of the evening is to hook up the new printer -- new computer needs new printer. Not sure if I'm liking this Windows Vista stuff --- a bit challenging. Shopped for a new tent too -- but way to expensive yet.

Thank God, the Party is Over....
ooooh my feet are achy -- lots of good company, lots of fun -- hopefully a good time was had by all.....

And after the party.....
the melon patch had to be marked --- Joe was rolling over the hill to plant this, at 8:00pm last night, Nick and I are tooling around on the ATV trying to measure out the space I need.... looks a little larger but will fill 'er up in no time. It's a 1/2 mile from the house, so the ATV will get a workout too.

Today is back to work -- the phone calls and questions never seem to end.

Happy Monday!

Hawk, the fighting chicken

well I shut the door on the rooster house last night and evidently, hawk, the fighter, decided he needed his independence and well, he spent the night looking in at his buddies.....

he's a mean little devil -- instigates all of the fighting --- i did a head count when i locked the door (via my headlights at 10:30 ..... so they were bunched red, the cat, likes to play with them and occaisionally gets locked in with them.....

it's a wild wild kingdom here on the prairie.....

the tables and chairs are set --- ready to decorate.....the decorations are delivered
the ham & turkey slices are rolled, the cheese trays are "pinwheeled" (thanks Kris), the pasta salad is done (thanks Jan) -- the tea is brewed (hope people are thirsty for tea), the rest is ordered and ready to be picked up......

now if i knew what i was going to wear...... ...... ...... my spiffy new sandals might be a bit chilly today.....

No early rise today

Diva slept in...... until 7:00ish --- whipped up the veggie dips for the party. Washed dishes, started laundry, yelled at the roosters (they are out roaming the yard) .... cleaned closet .... how many single socks does one Diva need....

Off to vac, then shower, then off to work for part of the day. Comtemplating another Mankato trip --- my car has been out of town 2 this week, not sure if it can handle a 3rd trip. Got to go to Cleveland for my haircut!

So the planning and work continues --- 28 hours and counting for the start of the big event. Dad is farming today --- the fertilizer wagon has arrived the large green John Deere too.... the prairie will be turning brown shortly...... anticipating rain..... will plant this afternoon too....

More Golden Oldies....

The 1969 Mustang -- after the crash --- I don't think a picture exists before the crash --- it was cool --- this was the fall of 1979 (so it was only 10 years old then) ..... the corn dryer is in the background -- I think that was the new "farm" addition that year. Dad is still missing the car. It was to be the first in his collection -- wrong!

This is where we used to live -- down on the highway next to the always flooding river! This must have been taken in the 70's too.... it was black and white and I tried some artsy photo's in high school with the school camera -- looks to be spring before everything greened up and the river flooded. We moved out in 1967 but farmed it thru 80 -- 81?

Okay the famous Montana shots --- Jean, Mom and I on our 1972 train trek to Glendive Montana --- a grandma visit -- gotta love the wardrobe choices --- if I remember correctly she lived in an apartment over a hardware store -- August in eastern Montana with no air conditioning and well, too much grandma. I think this was taken at the State Park in Glendive --- returned later in life and still can't remember the name of the place.

Nick and his big fish -- I think this was his first solo trip fishing with Grandma & Grandpa to Canada -- doesn't he look little -- compared to today --- 6' and over 200 lbs ---- I think this was the summer of 2003?

Thursday, April 16, 2009

More entertainment

Nick and his early atv days -- i'm thinking this is outlawed by some governmental unit....
So love Jean's 2 piece bathing suit .... looks like the endgate of the truck is about to collapse on us .... the scary thing -- this truck died (thru a rod) and is parked back in the grove --- large piece of yard art ..... for sale ....

Okay here we are atop of Fred....probably the only time he and we were sitting still at the same time --

Wednesday, April 15, 2009

One project done and now on to the Party

okay, yes this is me in the '70's in "my" tractor --- I spent more time in this tractor than in any car .... I think we were practice pulling for the tractor pull when someone took this....

This one is dated 1964 -- Nancy, Mom, Jean and Grandma Y just before the annual melon patch sale -- Nancy and Grandma Y were down from St Paul for the big day --- it used to be quite the weekend --- you could go into the patch and fill your trunk with watermelons for $5 ......

Here is Jean (right) and I -- one of those famous fishing trips to Mille Lacs -- notice the excitement on our faces....we used to camp on a dead end road -- no electricity -- no facilities --- none of the modern conveniences....(ex. no TV or radio -- no bathing for an entire weekend) .... love the wardrobe .... had to be May ...

Jean put together a CD of pictures for the anniversary party on Sunday -- I'll try and share the classics....
Happy April 15th

It's gorgeous this morning....get out an enjoy it!

Monday --- April 13th ......

So, 2 days and counting. (Not really -- it's already over.) Life was so normal (well my version of normal) I went home at 4:30 yesterday afternoon and no homework!!!! I even dashed home for a 2 1/2 lunch break ---

The roosters had a taste of freedom yesterday and will continue to do so --- all but hawk were in the "run" and roosting by 7:30 -- he's just an ornery chicken and struts to his own schedule. He'll be learning. Between the coyotes and the dogs next door -- they need to be penned up at night -- a barn cat had them treed for a while yesterday ---

The seed is sorted and labeled and number of hills counted out....just need some moisture and warmth. I did trek back to the pines and found my birdhouse/bushel basket gourds had all been stomped and smashed over the winter --- bits and pieces remain. The potted perenials are starting to sprout (at least the Iris).

Happy Monday

Farmers Market Meeting

The latest and greatest version of a 1040EZ form.
So, we had a market meeting last night.....

Since our market location is being overtaken by road construction (unnecessary and a waste of taxpayer $$$ -- my opinion) -- we're moving. The overflow parking lot of the old Community Health Care Center -- the corner of Park Row and Washington Ave -- a nice corner in a nice neighborhood. Away from the chaos of a major highway --- safe, quiet and pretty location.

The Maple Syrup Vendor -- is still cooking sap! But it sounds like they have had a great sap run, the apple and berry vendors are also getting excited.

Me, I'm just hoping all my seed gets here!

Best Email of the Week

this was for real.....i won't mention any names ---but it was one of "my girls" ---

Hey Marie,

It was too nice of an evening after spending most of the afternoon in the bathroom, so I went for a short walk. Who knew that the community center had such nice bathrooms…and a good thing it was before 8:00 p.m. or I would have been in trouble…

See you tomorrow

it gets better --- she needed to make two pit stops --- one for each direction........moral of the story --- watch the dipping sauce you get at BW3 --- evidently the "ranch sauce" was tainted.....

Ahhhh Thursday

will Thursdays without er ever be the same.......

Anna Kate -- Diva in training

what more could i say --- emmy's educating anna kate in the ways of a diva ---- must start with pink and cool shades!!!

Sleepy Nick

okay, Nick likes boxes and after a spell they become his boxes. That goofy cat likes plain ol' boxes only -- fancy ones he ignores. Although he seems to enjoy the fleece blanket I gave him for his regular box.
still counting down . . things are looking better every day.
the sun is shining and it's warming up!

Tuesday, April 7, 2009

Okay, I'm done being crabby for the week. It was the usual out of control Monday. Hopefully that won't be repeating itself anytime soon.

The sun is rising and the birds are chirping. I don't think it could get any better.

Life According to Maxine

This may be the best Living Will I've Seen
I,__________________, being of sound mind and body, do not wish to be kept alive indefinitely by artificial means. Under no circumstances should my fate be put in the hands of pinhead politicians who couldn't pass ninth grade biology if their lives depended on it, or lawyers/doctors interested in simply running up the bills. If a reasonable amount of time passes and I fail to ask for at least one of the following:

Glass of wine
Cold Beer
Chicken fried steak
Cream gravy
Mexican food
French fries
Ice cream
Cup of tea

It should be presumed that I won't ever get better. When such a determination is reached, I hereby instruct my appointed person and attending physicians to pull the plug, reel in the tubes, let the 'fat lady sing,' and call it a day!

Then Have a Drink

My Occupational Hazards

So, Ms Brandt as part of her educational process --- had a list of questions for me..... this is my latest version. I was told I should change occupations to stand up comedy --- I was compared to Larry the Cable Guy (of whom I'd never heard of and that set off a whole round of "you need to get out more")....

At any rate, normal in my world is not far away ---- 9 days or 135 hours or 8100 minutes. . . .

Rhino recall...

So, my ATV got recalled yesterday. Mom/Dad were giving me the scoop when I got home last night. A voluntary recall between Yamaha and the Consumer Product Safety Commisson -- so I'm guessing people are killing themselves on them. Sounds like a new roll cage, stabilizer bars and widening the wheels will be happening in the coming months.
Happens regularly, people act like idiots, kill themselves and the rest of us need to bear the consequences.
Well, by the time they get to fixing mine I should have garden planted!!!!
