Saturday at the Market

my truck load of stuff .... sometimes I'm amazed how much actually fits in it . . .
miss hannah and her wares -- Mrs H and Mr A having a chat. . ..

Mrs. B -- didn't realize I was going to take her picture!

The Honey Lady -- (I can't remember her name at this moment) . . . .

Barb (grey) and Rhonda (red) -- yes it must have been funny! Check out those cabbages -- aren't they gorgeous! Another Saturday at the Market is done -- today it was cool (cold) and really windy -- it felt like fall. The cool weather should bring a change to the squash and pumpkins and speed them up. I had a small bushel of Carnival's and a couple of Pumpkins.

The Party Girls.....

Thursday Night at River Hills Mall Food Court -- Mom (69) and Jean's (??) birthday celebration. It's been at least 5 years since we celebrated birthdays ..... Ana Kate kept us entertained on the merry-go-round.

Jean's Birthday!!!

Yes, she's only 47 not 48. I lost count after all counting back 2 years from self is a lot of work. Another beauuuutiful day in the Valley and I still have "no wanta work fever".

I'll be picking this afternoon -- getting ready for morning market. Hoping to find a canteloupe. I sent Dad up there to check on them yesterday -- who knows whats up there today.

New (but slightly used) truck for future finally bit the dirt. Next stop is the junkyard. Old Fords eventually die. I haven't seen the new wheels yet -- it's future use is to pull the 5th wheel camper (that has not yet been purchased) ..... the elders are busy camper shopping and frankly it's driving me NUTS.

New wheels are "watermelon green" --- 1999 with 40,000 miles . . . . ..... it even has a working radio/cd player. The key can even be removed from the ignition switch! And the passenger door is functioning. Can't Wait!!!!

Found a new blog today ... sewers need to check it out!

yes in captial letters with spaces......

so i overslept (again) .... got to the gas station (a disaster) .... made it to the office --- where i see 3 large backhoe's digging across the way (the pounding, the beepers, etc)

and i walk into the front room -- 2, yes 2! mouse remains. Nick had a busy night -- I cannot for the life of me find out where the darn things are coming into this shack. It's got to be the fireplace .....

well Nick is a bit proud of himself this morning -- so just imagine the mouse farts that will be happening this afternoon.

it died again

that damn truck is going to be the death of me . . . . coughed and spit and herky jerky all the way home last night.....

sometimes it's not good to live on top of a large hill....made it to the shed, where it promptly died and spit out a bunch of fluids. elder thinks it was a fatal cough.

damn hate when that happens!

it was an entertaining afternoon at market. the health care center brought down a bunch of residents to shop -- they were a hoot --- I hope they keep bringing them down.

It's Raining......

So that must mean even taller-more-out-of-control weeds. I'm doomed.

I picked last night for market today -- small load -- then came back to town to mow lawn at the office (the lawn mower had a couple of issues) -- the job is done. I think the lawn mower is also done. The quack grass is taking over -- most of the creeping charlie is finally dead. Need to work on weeding flower beds and cutting out the junk.

Got up -- trekked out to THE TRUCK (wet grass/still raining) -- tarped it with a famous blue Menards tarp and made it into the office and the office garage -- only stopped twice to "re-tarp" it. I'm here. Now I need to find dry shoes.

Hopefully the rain stops by 2:00 and I'm sold out by 5:00 so I can go on to the next meeting.

Blogging / Blogger

the sad and sorry looking cukes, green beans and tomato's --- blight has arrived....

Nick is antagonizing poor Tiger --- no wonder the cat attacks him...... the camera batteries were fizzing out so .... it's a bad picture....

Diva's notes for a Saturday....
a. made it thru another Saturday at the Market --- I had 2 watermelons, 3 kohlrabi, and a small basket of Roma tomato's left over --- a good day
b. I've been blogging for a year. wacky to say the least.

c. and now there is laundry waiting for me.....

The day of picking . . .

So I'm picked -- the produce is picked and cleaned and loaded into the truck. THE TRUCK -- the 1992 with a 180,000 miles on it and of course the TANK is empty --- last summer it was $125 to fill both tanks. Eats into the profits eh!

The coyote has made it's presence known -- dashed thru the yard while the elders were eating lunch and then left a couple of deposits in the patch -- and attempted to roll off a melon. Varmits -- I can hear them chatting as I type.

Cousin Gordon sends an email a day with the fun events of the day..... his joke of the day is following. ...

I was in the pub yesterday when I suddenly realized I desperately needed to fart. The music was really loud so I timed my farts to the beat.
After a couple of songs, I started to feel much better. I finished my pint and noticed that everyone was staring at me.
Then I suddenly remembered that I was listening to my IPod.
On that note --- time for bed. Need to be up early!!!

Wet Diva

So God turned on the tap water and well, forgot to turn it off.....

Things are really greening up around here -- the weeds be getting out of control....needless to say I'll be searching for melons in the really wet weeds this afternoon. I did take an ATV trek up to Jean/Lee/Nick's to check on the canteloupe -- so far no nibbling by deer and they are ripening. Hard to believe with no sun.

The ATV is no long red -- the mudholes were a little deep (and yes I went thru them slowly) . . . by the end of the day I'll be covered in mud.

The only good thing -- I pulled weeds at the office last night -- they sure pull easy .....

Yahoo -- Diva gets her truck back. Didn't think I'd ever get excited over a 1992 Ford with a zillion miles on it ..... elder got it running today -- the battery posts have been replaced and a new (but well used) battery was installed.

So tomorrow the interior gets a bath ... and I can put my junk in it and LEAVE IT IN IT .... unloaded and reloading the tables, chair, tent and odd accumulation of junk is hard work!!! I'll stop whining --- since I have red/white back!

Going to bed a happy Diva ==

ps. We bailed out of Mankato when the storm alerts were flashing thru Sam's Club -- that's the last place I'd want to be when the crap instead of Panera (and a really nice supper) -- it was the drive up at Toxic Juans (aka. Taco Johns) -- the heartburn has already begun.

Monday Humor

sometime's email shows up with pictures that are just too good not to share ....

Saturday, August 15, 2009

they land, they take off, they eat, they leave fertilizer... and the whole time they are chatting .... they are so low when they clear the house we can hear their wings flapping....

T G I F...... it's finally Friday......

Loved the rain yesterday --- 3/4" in the gauge .... ever wonder why we keep track of those details....

So elder tells me that's rabbits nibbling on my pumpkin -- I think not -- the deer hoof print was there too...

Picked watermelons last night (and green apples) ...

Tuesday, August 11, 2009

okay --

so the rows are now hidden by vines and weeds....
if the geese are flying this low -- it could be a problem -- they are off to the sweetcorn to nibble on the leftovers --

one of the lovely deer nibbled on my fairytale pumpkin.... hope the tummy hurts..

BANDIT -- the begging cat -- he sits at the patio door looks in and drools for a handout -- but he's so jumpy I can't pet him yet.... huge feet, ears and he has a really long tail

he's eyeing up the petunia's --- nothing is safe, cats, deer, geese -- beginning to feel like a zoo.

so late yesterday afternoon --- i heard the ring of the missing cell phone -- okay -- I am an idiot -- it was in the tote bag that I carry daily with all the important things I need (shorts/t shirt/extra shoes/purse/camera/lunch/overdue library books) -- yes it is a watermelon tote bag! at the very bottom was the ringing / vibrating green phone!!

new diva wear is on the way --- should be delivered tomorrow -- all diva's need custom clothing!

Something is wacky in my world.

When I figure it out I'll let you know.

Maybe more attitude adjustment.

Maybe, maybe, maybe

ps. the apple green LG cell phone happens to be mine -- if you happen to see one unattended .... I had it Saturday and haven't seen it since .... might be in the red truck -- might not be in the red truck.....

Market Saturday

okay -- this little guy had a green dinosaur with him and he really wanted some green beans...but looks like the perenials were a favorite too...
-- lace cap hydrangea's from a shrub in my backyard -- I did a little pruning and shared the blooms with customers... really pretty --

-- okay this little guy comes everyweek -- I'm going to need to carry doggie treats...he's just a riot -- my cat is larger!

Pam and Mr Prafke ... Pam was overrun with zuchini and cucumbers this week --- oodles of cucumbers....

miss hannah and her wares... lovely cabbages... the leaves on the savoy are really pretty, leeks, beets, kohlrabi and the famous swedish tea rings.....

Market Saturday ....

so I picked the green beans and cukes in the rain yesterday -- barefoot --- great pedicure from the wet sandy soil.

market is over for the day -- hot and sticky -- i took oodles of pictures for the Market Facebook page but can't find the cord to download from the camera to the computer --- life.

enjoying the rain ....

drip drip drip

(at least it is raining on 3rd street) . ......

hanging around waiting for it to rain....

even the weeds are dying from lack of moisture...... that's not good.

GAC -- Arboretum

sorry -- I don't spell well --- but the Arboretum at Gustavus is worth the trek up there -- it's really at it's mid/late summer peak -- the flower beds are blooming, the prairie is alive -- the kids aren't back in school yet -- it's a great place to have all to yourself....

i was a guest of the computer geek's wife last night -- we were at the Arb -- supper, music, devotions and tour of the grounds -- beautiful night (no bugs!!!) ...

and no camera ..... will have to return (and soon)

ps. the big green machine was gone when I got home yesterday so I took an ATV tour and found him making a lot of dust ..... way too much dust..... hope the wind doesn't blow -- the prairie will be moving....

Wednesday, August 5, 2009

i'm finding the cabbage patch to be most entertaining -- these creatures (?) are a hoot to watch .... dad planted my leftover butternut squash in the little garden and damn if he doesn't have 4 squash on one small vine....

mr renter left the large green machine in the yard yesterday -- the sweetcorn is now history and i assume he was ripping around the edges -- it's just too dry to work up the entire field.... i hope his memory is good -- 35 years ago he left a tractor (one of ours ) in the same position and it rolled and almost hit the house --- hit the tree next to the house ---
if it happens again his landlord will be most unhappy ..... unfortunately we're all 35 years older (we all grew up!) -- and the equipment is getting a whole lot larger ! (and more expensive) . . .

this diva has decided August is vacation month -- sleep in -- work when you feel like it and just hang about --- so this morning I didn't get to work until 7:45 --- really late for me.... and I'm leaving at 4:00pm!!!

Monday, August 3, 2009

Monday (already)

why are the weekends only 2 days

i never seem to have enough hours in the day

Gordy's Garden

look no weeds.... gordy has no weeds and just about everything planted....corn, tater's, onions, sweet potato's, cabbage, kohlrabi, carrots, flowers!

these are the sweet potato's and the cosmos....

he has inches of mulch and under the mulch is soaker hoses which are fed by large 1,000 gallon tanks of water which he collects off the roof of the shop .... it's cool to visit!

Diva at the Market

So this Diva went to Market today -- sold out (except the maple syrup) by 11:00, sat around and visited -- good to see everyone after a year .... read 14 pages of my new libary book -- and then headed home.

Still have truck to unload, got to use the spiffy newer one, since elder #1 still has junk in the old beater --- my tent is still an issue but everyone else has the same tent so lots of bodies to help next week.

Now it's time for a bite of Hannah's fabulous Swedish Tea Ring w/raspberry filling and a nice hot cup of coffee.
