I am blessed

this is not the road to no where -- rather the road to somewhere and no Laura Ingles Wilder did not travel on it -- someone asked me that one time and well, maybe, but doubtful -- it's a nice thought .... certainly no cell tower in Laura's era .... or roundup ready soybeans (which have weeds).

the pumpkins and squash looking south towards town ...

the watermelons and fancy -- looking north to the creek

the canteloupe patch -- where I'm afraid there is no hope -- ferggie and the tiller will be out to wipe it all out ..it's very nasty looking....

weed patrol....

so at 5:26 this morning I was bonding with the weeds .... me and my chemicals were in action.  the last three short rows have been euthanized.  no assistants in the patch this morning.  momma cat and her kittens were sleeping on the seat of the ATV... more kittens, oh joy!

the remodel continues -- meeting with painters tonight hope to do some cleaning up there today.  bathroom has drywall installed and is ready for taping/painting and need to make a floor decision -- leaning towards paver tiles.  it is a small space.  might need to try it myself (yes to much HGTV).

  work awaits me.

ahhhh the gentle breezes...

are a whole lot better than the 90' and the 100% humidity --- remember after winter I vowed not to whine about the weather ....

other than elder and a skid loader incident it was a pretty calm weekend.  suffice to say he should stay off the skid loader for a while -- and the funny tracks in the beanfield was a very fast trip for excavation tools ... he needs to go back to the lake camper for a while

the plumber have the shower unit in, the capenters have the sheetrock in.... time for some taping and painting -- starting to look like a nice bathroom..... still need exhaust fan, sink and flooring (and a door for the shower!) but hey if i needed a shower there's a functioning one in the building.

More Rain

another 1.6 inches last night, for a grand total of 3.5 this week .... so we be floating away ... or at least most of my watermelons... it's soaked away but it's a muddy mess out there.  a gentle mist to wash the leaves would be nice.  oh, and the 70mph winds can stay away.

so i pulled weeds, shopped (an experience -- 4 pairs of capri's, 1 pair of shorts, 3 bra's for under $60 with discounts and gift cards) -- found the crushed walnut shells to make new pincushions ... kinda spendy but I'll try it.

baby jake is growing fast -- likes to ride

and off they go

dad and his new tomato cages... they seem to be sturdy

okay so we dodged another storm -- lots of sirens, warnings, etc really black and nasty looking but no hail, no wind and gentle rain .... so too wet to finish hoeing and more rain in the forecast so no garden jobs today --- sewing machine here I come .... the paintbrush is also calling --- apartment is ready to paint.....ugh

This DIVA has her home computer and her laptop back.  I've been unplugged at home for over a week.  Lots of gardening was finished this week.  Everything was hoed and almost everything has been sprayed for weeds and the weeds are dying.  I even mowed lawn at the office and sprayed for weeds there too.  I told 'ya I like my chemicals.

early bird gets the .....

weeds.... this diva was headed out to the patch with her sprayer and chemicals at 5:33am.   It was actually really nice.  Cool, calm, foggy --- I had visitors 4 deer got curious and checked me out.  They got within 100' and then I spoke, they ran!  Deer are a beautiful color this time of year.

by 6:30 my 4 rows were sprayed and I was headed to the shower...off to work and on with the rest of my day.

it appears my home computer was terminal.... or at least the drive is.....

#700 ... so

This Busy Woman is getting TIRED !!!  I'm in dire need of an attitude adjustment day!  But hey it rained last night -- 9/10ths so, I won't be dragging hoses to the kitchen garden, watering the ooodles of tubs I planted or .....

The carpenters arrived yesterday -- the bathroom has been ripped apart by the carpenters and the plumbers should be arriving shortly.... goodbye plastic turquoise tile (with black trim)!

 Working on the attitude adjustments!

busy woman syndrome

so yesterday it was....
   work, work, work
dentist at 3:30 (no cavities, just a brushing lecture)
   home for chores and supper
back to town for Planning/Zoning Meeting
   back to the farm
hoed 2 rows of watermelons (still not looking good)
sprayed the final row of pumpkins & squash
back to house for a shower  -- it was 9:15 and light enough to see.....

today it's....
plumber & carpenters arriving for bathroom event
  noon luncheon with local politicians
  WinVestors meeting at 5:00
home -- more watermelons to hoe

tomorrow it's ....
  work, work, work
  home for chores
back to town for Yoga ....

I'm going to need an attitude adjustment day -- I'm thinking it's gotta be Friday .... which I'll probably have to mow the lawn at the office and chop down the trees growing in my flower beds.....

And my sewing machine is calling -- where are you, where are you....

So the big # 700 is on the way ...... and the elders are off -- to the lake residence (or will be shortly) grandchild will be the co-pilot.

I spent most of Saturday with a hoe in my hand (grandma's hoe to be exact) --- the squash and pumpkins got their second hoeing and weeding and looking good.  So yesterday it was calm and still so I spent most of yesterday with a sprayer in my hand --- ROUND UP is my favorite juice this time of year.  Should see some color changes on the weeds (mainly quackgrass) shortly.  Granular TREFLAN is going down with the next tilling ....

This weeks focus is the watermelon/canteloupe side of the patch.  Oh and it needs me bad.  All part of life.

My shoulders are killing me.  Way to much lifting, hefting, dragging.  Not to mention a bit of sun.....

Friday Night Sew In...

well, didn't happen at this house -- this week.  I forgot it was Nicollet County Cancer Society's Relay for Life Night.  I was presented with the purple medallion award (volunteerism - although I really don't do as much as I should).  Jean and I had supper at the park and were bidding on some silent auction items -- of which I was the lucky winner of 2 -- yes, 2 handmade handbags.  A Maryetta special and a Vickie beach tote.  I am lucky.

back to hoeing -- second pass -- spraying weeds tomorrow.  dusting for bugs and well, attempting to catch an idiot on a dirt bike.  i can be a mean diva ....

and Thursday was STORM Day

dang, what a week eh!  I think we dodged another one (I know we dodged it) ... rolling/boiling skies, winds, sirens, hail, rain ..... thunder, lightening.  Actually it wasn't too bad at the farm.  Only a couple of the "golf ball" sized hail stones (picture is on Lori's phone!) .... I didn't check the rain gauge.  Not a lot of branches or leaves either.

my home computer pooped out -- don't think it was storm related more like Windows Vista related.

Relay for Life Night for Nicollet County ... fun night!

Looking forward to a calm weekend.

Wednesday was work day.....

well, for some of us.... dad and his tractor bonded with the tiller .... the patch has been tilled...looks good -- I'll start spraying  over the weekend and by Monday it will look fabulous.   oh, and the hoeing starts all over again too.... and the bug dusting...

more rain on the way and then sun, glorious sun for days.......

on my journey home last night -- a creature caught my eye --- a fawn was running beside me -- on the driveway -- and I had my camera but -- by the time I was ready it had dashed into the woods.   I'll get 'em yet -- cute !!! I think it was a couple of days old -- it was pretty sturdy on it's feet (hooves) ... the newborns are really shaky!!....

Wednesday, June 16, 2010

tuesday night in the patch

a hoe, a tired woman, 5 turkeys, a deer and a fawn.   and a few cutworms.  hoeing helps keep the cutworms at bay too....everything has been hoed once --- the pumpkins and squash are looking gooood .... but the watermelons --- well a bit of heat would be welcome.

i think i've got the apartment rented -- 2 peoples checked it out yesterday, plumber was here -- lining up the carpenter and electrician next.  how fun -- i can hear the $$$ flying out of my checkbook.  it'll be good to have someone up there --- now if the previous tenents would get the signs off the building....another day another project.

Tuesday in the Valley

It is still raining.  Yes, it rained during the overnight.  I managed to get the grass mowed at the office last night --- and pull a few weeds.  The weeds do pull easy.

The campaign is for real.  I have checking account and 2 contributions.  Kinda bizarre!  Fun, but bizarre.  Hopefully the Monday chaos is over and I can actually complete something.  Maybe the plumber will make an appearance.

Sunday, June 13, 2010

ahhh more rain

well, sort of, more like a heavy mist.  mist or no mist, I kept on hoeing ... the hoe impression will be with me for days.  all of the pumpkins and squash are hoed.  and a few rows of watermelons.  rain or no rain tomorrow night i should finish.

i even made it to the House for the afternoon -- 4 hours of sewing and the giant potholder is done, the table runner is done and a good start to the filmstrip quilt.

and now i'm going to bed and it is still light out... bizarre . . . .

Saturday, June 12, 2010

it was picture night ...

Harry (one of the many) thinks he's hiding amid the daisies ......

more of the raspberry patch within the park ....

marker for the French Cemetary

It is also the first day of the Farmer's Market and it is raining -- I thinking that is not a good omen.  My melon plants are a mere 3 inches tall -- so it will be a while before I get there.....

drip drip drip drip

Friday, June 11, 2010

yes, two posts in one day

mom frowning at the weeds and other stuff at the famous Rock ... since it was closed off to motorized traffic and converted back to native prairie it's turned into a weed pit -- full of thistles and wild raspberries and other obnoxious stuff
she won't be pleased to see her pix either!

the famous "Rock" in my neighborhood.... the big debate .... is it in the proper location --- don't know  --I wasn't there in July of 1851 -- when the famous (infamous) treaty was signed.

can you spot the grazers? ....  "are the canteloupe ready yet? "  i had words with 'em

(hint -- enlarge the picture -- they show up )

    dang -- it's still raining

where is the Noah and the Ark -- I think we'll need them both soon!

< groan > < sigh > < sigh >

this Diva is home and off the road and ugh my body is tired of sitting -- sitting in the car on the way up, sitting thru the seminar, sitting in the car on the commute home (traffic was ugly yesterday) .... I was good on Wednesday, it was not raining, so on every break and during lunch I walked the circle around the Hotel complex -- fresh air was lovely.  I was so close to Ikea I could smell it !!!!  Next trip.

I did tour the patch last night == stuff is still growing, hopefully I can start hoeing this weekend (rain / dryness permitting) and maybe even spray a few patches of weeds.

First up is the mess of stuff on my desk -- I hate being gone -- and, and  today is ......  appliance recycling day in Nicollet County --- I have a load of dead tv's, computer monitors, scanners and the like -- I'll be headed to Nicollet with my checkbook!  Been piling up the junk for a year.

Tuesday, June 8, 2010

big city of bright lights

poppies (before the rain)

I spent the day in well, Bloomington, across the parking lot from the Mall of America and IKEA .... I've still not had the IKEA experience.  Someday, maybe.  Anyway our seminar room had WINDOWS .... so we could see out and watch the planes taking off in the fog and rain.  It's good to be a farm girl.  I don't like traffic and every year it seems to get worse.  and no I really didn't learn a dang thing.  Back for another 8 hours tomorrow.  for $315 I should learn something!

somewhere amid the corn stubble is the pumpkins and squash ...

Monday, June 7, 2010

oh good grief it's Monday AGAIN

I'm not joking -- I really hate MONDAY'S.  They are especially bad when I'm going to be gone on Tuesday and Wednesday.  Not looking forward to my seminar -- nor the commuting.  Thankfully I have driving buddy to share the trek.  Now, if I could get him to stop at quilt shops and garden centers on the way .... or since I'm next door to Mall of America and IKEA.....

So, I started digging in the melon patch and things are starting to poke thru ... a really slow start on the watermelons.  The gentle rain on Saturday helped too.

I believe my renters have relocated == Robyn and I took a tour up there this morning.  Kinda bare -- needs a lot of painting and cleaning.  A bit of plumbing, a bit of electrical...... it goes on and on.... it will be a nice apartment ....

Saturday, June 5, 2010

are not coming out of the ground very well.  not sure if they are not germinating properly or if cutworms are munching on them -- i'm leaning towards poor germination --- no sign of the cutworms.  time will tell, if things don't start popping by next weekend I'll start replanting .... part of the farming life

i have managed to waste away most of the day.  early start to see the elders and nick off on their journey north.  finished library book -- took a cruise on the atv (checking the crops) ... started another library book (noticing the trend) ... dashed to mankato and two quilt shops looking for a particular fabric (no luck) ... took a wild drive up a really nasty hill to JD's graduation party -- where it rained..

the sun finally came out at suppertime....i started laundry, dishes and hit the sewing machine -- finished up a small portfolio ...

tomorrow i will be at 3rd street ... projects await me.

Friday, June 4, 2010

it's Friday and that means

Friday Night Sew In ....  back to work on my batik project ... decisions to make, quit now and finish or convert it to a "queen" bed quilt.  time will tell.

Surprise visitor today -- an old high school/church/4H classmate dropped in for a quick visit.  Evidently I really look like my mom.  Although my hair is not WHITE!!!!!  (yet).

Off to purchase laptop from dude up the street.  Wacky dude, hope it's not stolen/warm/wanted in another state by law enforcement.

Thursday ....

... so did Wednesday leave you speechless.  Gotta love a good hail storm.  None fell on Daisy Ln ... or 3rd Street but it was blowing to hard to see to far.  More rain in the forecast.

... this Diva is still at her desk ... not a good sign.  too much time spent with IRS auditor today (yes, she still visits regularly -- hope to finish tomorrow) working on getting all my stuff done early this month.

... there is a primary to campaign for .....  !!!!!!

Tuesday, June 1, 2010

Sooooooo .....

It finally rained.  A lot.  No Hail.  Thank-you.

It's official -- I'm running for elected office.  Not really sure if I'm a politician or not.  One step at a time.  Primary first.  3 candidates -- 1 seat.

I must have lost my mind.
