so, it's raining (smiling)

  yes, it is raining.
  thank you very much

I'm picked and packed for Market this afternoon.  I thought it was dry on Friday while picking and after 3 days of 20 mph winds and 90' it's dry.  Things are ripening too quick.

Raining enough when I left for the office I had to drive the Explorer not the patch truck so, I'll be trekking home to swap sometime before 1:30..... unless I can persuade an elder to swap for me.

 it's good to be me.....

it's really really good to be me....elder #2 swapped out the vehicles for me.  i think it's the first time she's driven the green truck -- other than a mailbox run (long hilly driveway!) .... so, change into my shorts and find a cooler and some ice and I'm ready to roll....

I can't believe I'm thinking this -- but a little snow would be okay ..... too much hot dry wind lately !!!

It happened, it finally happened...

I finally had a "sit on my ass and do nothing day"  sort of ...  I slept past 5:30 (never happens anymore), came to the office, fed the cat and dropped Mom off at grocery store.  Got home and hit the sewing machine!!!!

I did empty out some tubs and finish washing some others but it was a "less than 10 minute job" .... toured the patch via the atv (it was 95') ... and back to the sewing machine.  A bit of this and that and of course mending and alterations.  Gotta make the ebay finds fit properly!

Happy Monday

the story of my life

baby moose dancing in garden....  no moose in my neighborhood yet....the deer are bad enough, I'm  guessing the moose would also like the pumpkins and canteloupe.

click on the link -- should take you to the video -- as always, lower the sound....

good market day == until a gust of wind played nasty with my canopy ... thanks to the customers and neighbors we got it down before it landed in the next block ... (it's happened before) ...

ahh....i hear my sewing machine --- where are you ? where are you ? ....

$12,300 on the vehicle swap -- gotta think about that one.....

car shopping - option #1

okay, this was test drive #1 -- beautiful vehicle -- but black exterior, black interior and dark windows...kinda felt like a member of the mafia rolling down the road.  Huge.  Per Dad -- (after he crawled around under it, over it, around it and opened the hood)  built like a tank -- 2007 - 40,000 miles -- most of the bells and whistles that I currently have -- bigger size and bigger engine.  --- but a black interior and I think it smelled like cigarette smoke.

I'm picked and ready for the market.  There was a goofy shaped melon so in between trips to the patch and unloaded in chopped it in half --- wonderful.  An orangelo -- dark yellow/light orange flesh.  very sweet -- the heart was cracked -- due to our 10 days of extreme heat after 2 months of cool.  by the time I thought of a picture it had been consumed!

happy saturday

just gotta love Friday's .... and this Friday is special.

1.  Mom's Birthday!  70!  her email is dranttel@gmail.com
2.  It's going to be a fabulous day!

it's quite early -- my alarm clock died with the power outtage on Wednesday -- or rather I can seem to set the time for the alarm (it's a really cheepie) so, I either oversleep or am awake before the birds.

test driving the Expedition -- really, really nice set of wheels, however, the exterior and interior are black.  not sure if I like the black interior.  I think a smoker owned it, which isn't good, not good at all.  I turned on the defrosters and the smell wafted out.  zippy, large set of wheels.

the old cabinet project moved forward -- scrubbed it up and it cleaned up really well -- another round today and it's ready to move into the front room.

Tired (pooped) Diav...

so I'm so tired I spelled Diva wrong.  must be the change in the weather.  I can't seem to get enough sleep, although the coyote were howling last night, a lovely chorus at midnight.  it's been the week ...

lots of payroll
IRS audit (no big deal)
Market on Tuesday (no big deal!)
Webcast seminar yesterday (dullllll)
CRP musings/sign up (not completed yet)
Used Car Shopping

ah, test driving a vehicle this evening...2007/8? Expedition -- I'm going bigger not smaller.  I was told by those in the know -- that it should get the same mileage as the current SUV.  I'm sure it is very nice and will drive very nice....but....  time will tell.

Diva  (spelled correctly)

Market Tuesday

Ugh ... I parked my tush (polite term for ass) in the blacktop parking lot -- in the wind.  Too windy for the canopy -- for 4 hours for .....  $ 42.50 -- yes a mere 10.63 an hour.  This is just not acceptable and I don't think will be repeated in the future.  Just plain sucks.

   Not a whole lotta customers.

So, made it thru my audit in 45 minutes.  No change.  Gotta love 'em.  Sat thru the FSA meeting for over an hour -- the "conservationist" will be drawing up the plans for the CRP bid.  And then we wait.

Sunburnt and Tired Diva

All my tubs are filled I'm

ready to roll --- yes, a bad version of  JD.  bad version.

no, this is not my garden, it is Mr. T's  "look no weeds" and don't ya love the stalk on that sunflower... two rows of leeks in the background...more to come... the uploads are a bit slow tonight... since I need to rework the body -- they'll be in another post.

So tomorrow is:
IRS Audit (I'm smiling)
FSA Meeting for more CRP
Back to office to work !

So it happens.

Friday Night Sew In....

so this is the only thing I accomplished in my sewing room tonight ...

I filled the bobbins after I ....

 enjoyed my zinnias and

washed my ATV  --- not only does the car need washing, but evidently I'm supposed to wash the ATV too...it got a bit dirty when I loaded it with these

So I'm ready for the Farmers Market tomorrow -- 90' and I'm out picking watermelons  ....  if I would have spent some of the time I was dreaming up this little ditty -- actually sewing -- I might have actually finished something.  Alas, it's time for bed -- the bones are aching and I wouldn't want to be late for market after all my hard work.

Enjoy the rest of the quilt show -- I know it will be fabulous.

okay I'm not sure why but it doesn't take you directly to the show but scroll down and you'll get there eventually -- thanks for dropping by ... I promise to do better next month (although, it will be squash, pumpkin and watermelon picking by then).....

Watermelon Diva!!!

Late Thursday -- heading to Friday

window quilt #3 -- I've since added another row -- have side borders cut out and ready to attach -- backing and quilting tomorrow night during the friday night sew it....

bryan was working on the truck window and the window whapped him and well a trip to er and 5 stitches later .... and well, the window still isn't fixed.  so ... not sure what I'll be driving on Saturday --- just might be my slightly used Explorer (that I hope to trade off this week) ...

curved pieced table runner ... kinda fun, it was a kit from Gruebers .... I think the next window quilt will be made from this pattern and my stash of scraps ..

Up Before the Chickens

It's my first Farmers Market of the season and I don't have much but it's picked and loaded.  For some reason I was awake and functioning at 4:30am.  I will be crashing shortly after noon.

Another inch of rain yesterday.  It seems to happen fairly regularly.

okay this is the post market comment --- it was hot as hell and the extra hour of sleep would have been nice.  I'm off to nap .... after I empty a truck of tubs, baskets, tables, chairs, that damn canopy ..... throw out the trash ..... count the $$$$ .....

that canopy has me whipped.  damn thing. I'm not sure why God thought it necessary to dream 'em up.  finger pinching monster ... then the dohicky slid thru the post and now it's got a pencil sticking in it... and yes this is the new canopy .....  ugh

Friday, August 13, 2010

aaahhhh rain....

and since I was soundly sleeping, I'm told there was thunder, lightening and wind.  appears to be quite a bit of rain...the driveway had a washout and the plants at the office were blown over.

 good things happening today!

tile man is coming --- bathroom floor in the office!
carpenters are returning --- kitchen cabinets and sink to be arriving shortly
Bennet Clayton OI Golf Tourney Today --- working at the Silent Auction
(always fun -- good food -- fun stuff)
Picking Produce Today !!!  Market here I come (I think !)

I did head out to the patch last night for an hour --- a bit more spot spraying of the dreaded crab grass -- damn I can't seem to eliminate that crap.  It just sucks up any available moisture -- it's a bad year for it.  The little garden is overrun too.

ps.  by the way -- Diva will be celebrating 2 years of blogging shortly .... it's the year of big events 'ya know ... the birthday bash is a Market Day !!! so ....

Elections & Habits

Ever notice wacky things about yourself.  I realized this morning that I'm way to set in my ways.  For example ...  my morning routine.
     a.  McD's   (mondays & thursdays only) -- Iced Coffee (large -- it'll make it thru the day)
     b.  boot up computers
     c.  retrieve Mpls Trib from front porch -- un roll it and flatten it down
     d.  start reading favorite websites (generally in this order too)
             1.  St. Peter Funeral Home (I know -- morbid)
             2.  Mkto Free Press
             3.  Facebook
             4.  St. Peter Herald (never updated enough)
             5.  Watermelon Diva --- just to catch up on my favorites
     e.  look at daily appointment list
     f.  blog ...
     g.  finally get around to reading Mpls Trib (it's finally flat by now)

So the Primary Elections are over and I made the cut for the General Election -- so it goes....one of the St. Peter Super Stampers (Super Scrappers - can't remember their name) thought I should have T shirts (watermelon pink and green of course) printed up to wear at the fair.  I fell for it for a while -- NO, that's not going to happen.  Horrors -- I may try and avoid the fair .... too hot, too dirty, too many misbehaving children .... I'm working at a Charity Golf Tourney on Friday, maybe  Farmers Market on Saturday -- my sewing machine needs me on Sunday!

Happy Thursday!

okay, primary election is done....read about it here .... on to the next challenge.  part of the campaign committee thinks we need signs in the shape of watermleon slices..... not sure on that one....

and today is entry day at the NICOLLET COUNTY FAIR ... no I'm not taking anything ... thought about it last night when i was crusing the patch, but well, I had other things on the mind.

many thanks to the supporters --

The FIRST One for the Season

okay, peeps, this is what it's all about....this particular variety is "golden crown" ... it is supposed to start out green and turn gold when ripe....however they've been gold from the beginning.  I sampled before it hit the fridge to cool down.  Mighty damn tasty.....!!!

ps.  amid the primary election hoopala -- I ate my 1/2 of this little gem and it was even more tasty than the bite I had in the plug!!!
gotta have some weeds for shade -- but this is way too many -- notice the yellow ones... (weeds that is) .... they be dying.  i luv my roundup!

the Big Day

so, Nick, the nephew not the cat, takes his DRIVERS TEST today ---

  gotcha !!

go VOTE -- rumor has it there is a primary election and this DIVA is a candidate!!!!!
I wasn't nervous until this morning....

happy tuesday

stay cool and dry it's gonna be another nasty day in the valley.

the Day of Rest

So it's too hot for man, woman, child or beast so, I came to the office and I'm getting lots done.  I rose with the sun ... sprayed weeds for 2 hours and well, it was damn hot.

Free Press article about me can be found ...here ... so I've learned to insert a link....last week my "deep shit" comment made the paper.  Always entertaining, but that happens when a frivolous questions comes up and  I'm not a public speaker.  Never have been and will need to learn to be one.

Stay cool peeps, it's ugly out there!

"so is it apple pie for desert tonight"

after re-reading I had to edit my spelling, grammar and verbage....and thought we needed a little treat...this deer seems to think the yard is it's new home.  wrong....it also likes cucumbers and green peppers.

Saturday, August 7, 2010

i arose to a beautiful sunrise (thank you canadian ash) and checked out the weather radar and well went back to bed.  it's been raining ever since.  i'm dry.  that is good.

back to the projects, they await me

pictures to follow

Diva (a dry one)

i finished piecing the "filmstrip" quilt top ... not sure if i'm liking the two raspberry red blocks ... might need to swap them out....eeks  a seam ripper!!!

Friday, August 6, 2010

okay, it is really Friday

it's been a wacky week, hard to believe it's Friday already ... time seems to fly.  so the next big day is Tuesday ... PRIMARY ELECTION .... need to get the word out to VOTE  .... (and yes, vote for me) ...

I think I'm going to market tomorrow.... the truck is packed (with the tables, chairs, signs, bags, rags) I had hoped for a watermelon but that's not going to happen.  Gordie has a bunch of cukes, polebeans, edible soybeans, etc.  I should have a variety of peppers, cukes, bush beans and hopefully a tomato or two. I also have last years dried bird house gourds.  If it's hot I won't be there.

Thursday, August 5, 2010

Wednesday (already)

So a new enterprise opened in the Hotel last week -- and lucky me, they had a watermelon print that looks fabulous on my office wall.....

oh, by the way, I just realized it's Thursday ..... yep, I'm in trouble.

Wednesday, August 4, 2010

Hump Day ...

Not sure why I get so excited about Wednesday .... I seem to work 7 days a week.  Somewhere on something.

The heat and humidity are dropping.  Time for some quality garden time.  The grass I attempted to zap in the patch is dying.  I'm turning vines again tonight and getting ready for spot spraying tomorrow and friday.  Might just make it to the market on Saturday .....

tomato's, green beans, cukes, green peppers, birdhouse gourds (dried from last fall -- chewed by mice) ... cut flowers

and I feel the need to cut into my 32 yards of new fabric!!!!

Tuesday, August 3, 2010

More my style...

the soybeans along the "road to nowhere" are getting taller by the minute.  the helicopter is due in this week to spray them for aphids... they're getting chewed up

I know it's August -- the apples are getting bigger, tinting red and this clump is drooping -- I keep thinking Bambi or his mama would have chomped them off by now...

baby kitten -- the only friendly one of the bunch... he knows he feeds and scratches him ....

okay, candidate forum last night....not my strength .... front page of the free press ....

and oh ... they printed my "deep shit" comment....

Monday, August 2, 2010

So ..... (not sew -- so)

what happens when an entire McDonalds large vanilla ice coffee hits the office floor (the hardwood floor) ...

it's messy -- thankgoodness it was the hardwood floor -- I guess it's God's way of telling me  -- no more vanilla iced coffee from McD ....

Sunday -- SPYA & DND

after spraying and flag pulling -- all of my garden shoes needed to be hosed down ... hoping they dry a bit and them I'll hit 'em again....

the weeds in these rows should be brown by tomorrow -- or some of them anyway since the vines have clogged the rows it's time to spray the rows next -- remember I love my ROUNDUP .... even if I am allergic to it....

mower man was mowing the back hill and the spots here and there -- knock it down and wait for it to grow back -- twice a year...

= SIT ON YOUR ASS AND DO NOTHING DAY .... except I had a typo ...
