day 1 at the cabin

Nick & the dog brought the boat over from the public landing .... including a fire pit grill and the entire front end was loaded with wood.

the boys repositioned the lift and put up the canopy

that goofy dog thinks he's "Rose" from the movie Titanic ... sits up front and flaps his ears (or barks at people on shore)

fire pit grill down on shore

Lee caught the first fish -- off the dock ...

So, we have a place on the lake for the summer -- yesterday was our first day and two truck loads of stuff and a boat made out there -- I came home for the night .... and will be packing up more "stuff" ... and a little work before I return ....

It promises to be an entertaining summer!

can you see them

yep, they're  up! (or some of them) -- the melons are cracking pretty well, the pumpkins have hatched!  -- the early hard rains formed a tough crust and Sunday's gentle rains loosened it up ... and they're popping thru -- it's a cool sight out there.

see I used, their, they're and there correctly in one long run on sentence.  sorry I digress (and I corrected myself and only used two of the three)

whew .....

now on to bug control.   as in cut worms.  spray and hoe, hoe, hoe

and yesterday

lots got done.  #1 sprayed the patch -- better living thru chemicals.  lets hope they do the trick and keep the grass to a minimum.  I'm all about less grass -- (and less Round Up to control it) ...

I quilted the ugly quilt .... and got the binding on # 8 & 9 and had a little road trip ....

I've referred to this one as the "ugly quilt" ... not feeling the love
the vision at the cutting table did not match the end result ...

hmmm -- grandma's old dog house

demolition in progress

not sure if Nick is feeling the love ....or the need for demolition

frost tinged corn ....

this week in pix

sunrise (from the drivers seat) ...

my latest addiction  - dark choc and blueberries --- should be health(ier) eh!

squash to the left -- watermelons to the right and corn that had a touch of frost -- straight ahead

the watermelon "third" of the patch
a bit of left over corn stalk residue .... and crooked rows .... life is not perfect

the girls are growing ...

the morels were huge ... Dad found them while mowing lawn ....

and the itty bitty rock in my brake drum ...good grief, heads were turning while I was driving down the street -- it is bad when people stare, point and cover their ears.  Cousin Shorty to the rescue -- he's been blessed with both of my vehicles this week --

Patch is planted --- watermelons, squash, pumpkins, fancy pumpkins, canteloupe, sunflowers, zinnias, zuchinni and green beans ... left to plant is the dill, bachelor buttons, cosmos and a few tomatoes, peppers and eggplants (not many) ....

I have a 300 ft row of giant sunflowers and a 300 ft row of colorful zinnias --- should be fun!

finally Friday

it's been the week of entertainment ...

the truck is falling apart
the Mustang is now making funny noises
it's not good when people stare and point at you ....
that is my next phone call.
the patch is 98% planted and ready to spray for grass
the little garden is planted (I had nothing to do with it)

the laundry is done
the crap in my office is still piling up.

so today ...

1.  going to call cousin Shorty regarding the Mustang
2.  going to call the truck repairman and get it scheduled
3.  going to plant the last row in the patch
(green beans, zinnias, tomato's and an assortment of peppers)
4.  going to sort and organize the work piles
5.  going to sew.
6.

yep, it's going to be a productive day.

Happy Friday y'all.

Note to Walgreens ...

Dear Walgreens;

Thanks for the SLOW shipping of my pictures --- although they took 10 days the quality is quite good.   I so enjoyed looking at them, especially those of someone else's vacation.  It appears they enjoyed the Tiki bar and a fancy resort in Hawaii (must be Hawaii -- appears to have lava).

I certainly hope -- if some receives my pictures in the future they will also enjoy them, I am, however quite dull.  Veggies, flowers and quilts are not as entertaining as someone lounging in a pool with a beverage in their hand.

Sincerely;

The Watermelon Diva

argh!

neighbors ...

I have cool neighbors -- this is how they painted their lp gas tank .... ... is it not love at first sight!   hoping to do the same to ours this summer ...

This house went on the market yesterday ... 40906 Cedar Ridge Rd .... it's a great location and has fabulous neighbors!

#7 for 2015

here is #7 ... a weather front was moving thru last night and a gust of wind caught it while snapping pix and it's currently a balmy 42' ... frost is in the forecast .... frack.

crazy wind and fast moving clouds

here is the whole thing ...

So Saturday night -- I planted 400 hills of watermelons and the first 150 hills of squash ... if it dries out enough overnight .... I might get the rest of the squash in tomorrow night -- if not, it will be Wednesday .. it will be warmer then too ... or that is the prediction -- I think I liked the weather better when I got up and was surprised in the morning -- none of this 10 - 15 day outlook stuff.

#'s 8, 9, 10 and 11 are hanging on the long arm --- 8 needs binding, 9 & 10 just need to be quilted, #11 is the ugly quilt -- still not sure what to do with it.   it is that ugly.

It's all about the dots!

Time for the Spring Quilt Blogger's Festival -- I haven't participated for a while so ....

I'm a dot fan -- so I had a couple of jelly rolls of big dots and little dots and I attempted whipped them into a random crib quilt ... random is generally not a word in my vocabulary ..

It finished into a "little bit larger" than crib quilt .... and well, it oozes dots and happiness.
and it looks pretty spiffy next to the zinna's.

the back is a wild random stripe -- that, frankly, wasn't printed straight with the grain, so it's a tad bit wonky looking.  More dots for the binding.

And my usual loopy swirls -- quilted on the long-arm (yes, it takes longer to load it than quilt it -- but the swoopy swirls are fun) ...

Check out the rest of the Quilts in the Quilt Bloggers Festivial

enjoy the sights of the show it's always wonderful

fabric overload, part II

yep, on the way to scrapbooking/sewing a couple of weeks ago -- a dirty ATV works just as well as a car and/or truck

Joanne at the cutting station -- what to buy???? how many yards????

Jan and Joanne at the cash register .. this SRHarris store is a lot nicer/cleaner than the other one ... less stuff to dig thru and the quilting fabrics are displayed like a normal fabric store .... the fabrics were all marked at 50% of retail .... so ...

zippers and buttons

my haul of 29 yards, reds on the bottom, black/green/orange next, limes and purples in the middle, a beige stash builder, a blue and beige strip and lastly ... 2 flannel fat quarters from a quilt shop on the return trek.  --- a lovely haul!

T G I F

blue blue sky ...

honeysuckle

So, I thought I'd be planting -- #1 has the patch disked -- but evidently he wants to re-work it in the morning.  So, the planting waits.  It gets done.  It grows.  Deer eat it.  Marie gets mad.

Tomorrow Jan, Joanne and I are road tripping it to SR Harris ...

this pix is from my 2013 adventure

you can read about it HERE ...

I still have not recovered .... 18 months later ...

they have a new store a bit closer and I'm told a lot more organized than this chaos.  I have my purse cleaned out my spending $$$$ out and all I have left to do is put together some fabric swatches.

I worked on the ugly quilt tonight -- pictures to follow.  Just not feeling the love on the UGLY.  Time will tell.
