Happy Halloween ...

Happy Halloween

So I finally caved in and went to urgent care for the ear -- a lecture, a prescription and relief after a couple of doses.  Nothing like an antibiotic suspended in a steroid to give relief.  It has happened before and it will happen again.

I did manage to sneak in an early evening walk -- it's dark by 6:30 ... I started out a 5:45 ... and promptly found 8 deer and one hunter in the patch.  Lee was sitting in his stand scoping out the possibilities before deer opening.  He was less than thrilled to see me wandering around at dusk.  He'll adjust -- the deer like me.  I feed them well, really well.

falling apart

so Friday was awesome gorgeous -- I took a little atv ride and shot way to many pictures -- I'm thinking of attempting a clamshell quilt and color/texture option are bouncing around in my thoughts ... yesterday was the FUN RUN -- 770+ bodies got registered and out on the course in a pretty speedy manor -- we got 'em in and got'em out and they did the rest ...

so I'm battling an ear infection -- need to get myself to urgent care -- it's open, thought I'd see how the morning goes (pharmacy opens shortly) .. then dash up for drugs .. advil is masking the pain and swelling ... but not the cause ... hate these painful interruptions I had plans for today ... I drugged up pre-fun run and didn't have time to think about it ... so off I go ..

Ruby!

So, last night on the journey home from New Ulm (again, trip #11 -- since August 1st) ... Ruby celebrated the 10,000 mile mark.  Here's the fun part --- it was on the Fort Road ... at a clients mailbox/driveway .... 3 summers of driving ... 6 months of warranty left  ...

Ruby needs to be cleaned ... really cleaned -- inside and out and prep for storage.

It was a long trip home in the dark last night -- I had cramps in my driving foot most of the way -- I did pull over at a grain bin/dryer site and walk a bit .. that helped ... I'm sure their security cameras caught it all --- I waved at the camera ...

Back in the car for home ...

Working up an adventure !

yes, I can cook ...

So Saturday -- I did a spot of cooking -- Funeral HotDish from the Vatican (aka St. Peter's Catholic Church's Funeral Committee) -- we Lutherans refer to it as the Vatican -- it cost almost as much as the original Vatican.  Anyhow -- the funeral committee guards the recipe .. and I mean armed guards.

and here it is -- ready for the oven ...
and this is the large turkey roaster ... yep lots of it.

and here is the recipe -- although there is a couple of misprints -- it's 2 bunches of celery -- yes, 2 bunches ... and it is Marian Boys.  I made a 1/2 batch -- swapped out the "golden mushroom" with cream of celery soup ... I didn't get a pix of the finished product but it was darn tasty ... lots of leftovers froze for future dinners!

10,000 steps

I've had my fitbit for a year (or longer) and sometimes I'm a bit zealous in attempting to attain the 10,000 step mark .. it only seems to happen on weekends when I'm running around like a chicken ..

Yesterdays 10,000 steps included a trip to the post office to mail back some Lands' End returns -- corduroy pants that were too large on my ass (sorry couldn't resist), 2 1/2 hours of duty at the food shelf -- 11 families came thru, it was busy ... and then I mowed the freeking lawn for the last time this year -- I HATE mowing the lawn (at least here at the office).

While mowing -- the wail of the ambulance occurred -- it went to Ruthie's ... so I wandered over there ... it's hell to age and age with no one.

see that quilt in the lower left with the daisies -- I made that -- I know my fabric!  I stole borrowed saved this picture from Wastebook -- one of the garage sale sites -- someone was selling these baby blankets for $5 -- including mine.  Hmmmm.... hope it was well loved.

ready for the disk ....

It was project day on Daisy Lane ...

in the little garden the fence came down and the fence posts got pulled and stored ... elder #1 is way to fond of attaching fencing to posts with plastic ties ... just saying .... tomato cages got pulled and piled ...

I moved on to the patch ... pulled the scarecrows ... except the owl, it has become a mouse condo ... I don't do mice.  Sorted the pumpkins and squash and tossed the iffy ones.

Into the office and dumped the flower pots -- and stored them .... ya, stored them ... brought home the foliage and dumped it in the melon patch ...

and I'm down to this ... well, less than this, Keith and Corrine took the orange sunshines ...

faded memories ....

remember that pair of blue jeans that you wore everywhere ... all the time
here's my favorite pair -- $14 on ebay -- 'twas a hell of a deal

I remember the day they got ripped on this trailer full of squash -- the pix properties date it 2005 -- I thought it was older than that ..

Today I've been purging closets again/yet/still and I decided my rather large / rounded / backside (ass) will never fit in them again ... I've been holding on to them for a while -- dreaming of the day ... well that day may come again but in the meantime ... someone else will get a "steal of a deal" from the local thrift shop -- I know they'll love them as much as I have ... holes, rips, tears and stains of hard labor.  So many memories in a faded pair of Levi's.

another jewel of a picture from that famous day ... I swear it was before 2005 -- but hell I'm old and evidently the mind is wandering too ... love the equipment line up ... my 2005 Explorer (so it had to be 2005) ... the old red/white truck -- miss that baby ... and the two atv's ...

We sold melons that day for $1 too --- and sold every single one of them .... and most of the squash on that ratty trailer in the previous pix ....

love, joy, happiness and tears ..

So, yesterday I attended the wedding of Jeremiah & Alyssa (my apartment renters) -- it was in Belle Plaine -- in a barn and it was so awesome.  It was truly a celebration with oodles of love, joy, happiness and laughter --

Both the bride and groom had all of us in tears with their vows.

the family did so much work -- all the special touches --

and the view of sunset from the upper barn deck ...

Blessings to the Bride and Groom
I know your future will be filled with love, laughter and joy ....
(and lots and lots of babies)

the color red

Our autumn flame maple is in full color right night ... the red leaves from the top are dropping in the wind and landing amid the not-so-red leaves at the bottom ... it is always stunning.

at loose ends

yep, that feeling between seasons ..

so much to do so little time to do it
and no ambition for anything.

my market season is mostly done ... I might have a pop up squash gig on Sunday.  might.  the tables and stuff is already out of the truck and in the garage.  I want my truck back.

I cleaned my sewing room Sunday morning and sat down and played with the cricut Sunday night. not sure why I purchased that gizmo.

county meeting last night, road tour today, meeting tonight (New Ulm!) .. I should move to New Ulm I spend a lot of time over there lately.  candidate forum Thursday night.

the weekend should be mine.

and the party is over

yep, when the fridge is empty and defrosted the party is over ..

dear mice -- say out of the toilet paper, paper towels, paper plates and cups ....

dang, it was a fabulous afternoon on the deck
(even with no running water .... that translates to no toilet) ...

enough leaves have fallen off -- the neighbors boat house is in sight -- it's pretty cute

Jake's tail made the pix -- the water is slowly receeding -- slowly ....
I'll be back in 186 days ....

ahhhh October ...

I thought knew I needed an attitude adjustment moment last night ... so I rode up to catch the geese landing -- and they had already landed .. but I thought this shadow of me and the atv was cool

the crows continue.  hope they enjoyed them.

Saturday morning market -- my tables were borrowed out to the scrapbookers --it was too windy for the tent -- so what you see is what they got .. it was $1 day -- everything was a $1 ... irritated a vendor or two and well -- I was equally irritated.

today is clean out the truck day --- tables and stuff to the office to store ...
tub up some leftovers
dump some leftovers
give it a bath -- inside and out .... get ready for winter.

the end

killer, he thinks he's tough.
he's not.

the sad, sad looking patch ... I can't begin to count the number of hours I spent out here this year -- I was pretty darn diligent with the early hoeing -- very little weed spraying ... when the rains didn't stop the grass took over ... but I picked and I sold (and am still selling) ... it was a good year
it is good for me .... but

I think (in my heart, know) this is the last load of melons -- and probably the last load of melons for me -- I think it might be time to retire -- I'm waffling more than ever.

Since we started closing up the cabin on Sunday -- I've regretted not having more time at the lake.  I really like my lake time.  A good day at the lake can solve all the problems of the world ... truly ...
Will need to make decisions ... sometime soon.

because this is --- really, really nice ... (even flooded) ...

and Kevin checking out the "fullness" of the grain bin -- he was unloading soybeans at the time ...

all good things come to an end ...

So it's my birthday -- and today Jean and spent a few hours tidying up our Happy Place -- all the clothes, towels, bedding etc. is home to be laundered ... paper products tubbed up to keep out the mice, groceries tubbed up and hauled home, my old Bernina came home, ditto the crafty projects we had out there.  Lawn furniture scrubbed and stored.  Floors vacuumed --

Still need to wash the windows, scrub the kitchen floor and defrost/scrub out the refridgerator (can't spell it today) .. and move the grill in ...

Boat and WaveRunner are home -- I don't think winterized yet -- if next week end is nice might get to squeeze in a boat ride -- although the "no wake" policy is still in effect.  Lake is still high and the shoreline is tender ...

Later alligator -- going to miss this place -- spring is too many months away ....
