I've become the master at sorting stuff and either

1.  tossing it 

2.  burning it

3.  adding to iron pile

4.  giving the shit away 

two days of curbside distribution have went extremely well. I did list it on wastebook marketplace -- won't be doing that again -- too many emails, texts and questions.  Just get the shit and leave.

I think I'm down to the propane powered bug zapper (like we ever needed that) and a couple of the wooden flats/crates ... 

pots, furniture, live trap, fencing, hose reel -- GONE ...

so if i put out the 9 rusty dead stripped snowmobile engines from the 1970's ... will they get snatched up up -- time will tell.

the crazy start to Saturday led to finishing the day with a couple hundred pix of hummingbirds at the feeders ... I sat in Mom's golf cart and just kept snapping -- frankly, I couldn't see what I was getting until I downloaded the chip to my desktop.

the buggers were hangry ... I'm surprised they are still around -- the cat and I were getting buzzed by them while sitting around.  yes, that damn cat.  he likes the golf cart.

this one is on a mission

last night after cleaning in the old showroom ( I'm on a 2 hour a night mission this week) Mom and I took a ride on the SxS .. there has been a crew working on the tower for at least a week and at 7:30 last night one dude was still at the top .. not a gig for this woman .. too high ... but I bet the view from up there was spectacular -- the sun was glowing orange as it set ..

PSA: I have a load of "treasures" soon to be placed on the office lawn with a free sign -- some crates, a couple of "tents", plastic shelving, chicken wire fencing, an end table, a hose reel cart,  some enamel ware, garden pots (nice ones) -- tomorrow's haul includes more planters, bicycles (for decorative purposes only) and perhaps some tools.  

damn, I'm good.  the "treasure pile" is down to 2 wooden flats, the "pot", the fan trellis and a couple pieces of enamel ware .. 

cheeper than tossing this crap out 

 

I can't make this shit up ...

 okay peeps here's the Saturday synopsis ... it's a doozy

4:15 -- I hear noises .. Mom and the cat are having a discussion

                the beast peed in her bed ... NOT A GOOD THING she stripped the bedding and put in in the laundry basket because at 4:15 she ain't thinking and she moves to the couch ... I strip her mattress pad off and give thanks for the plastic-y side towards the mattress .. ( lots of thanks ) .. and proceed to start washing things ... 

5:45 -- the basement toilet overflows .... NOT A GOOD THING

                I was working away on work things and washing all the bedding -- and well, used the toilet and things got ugly ... and where is the freaking plunger when you need one ... not next to the toilet ... argh .. swoosh water, scrub floors -- and wet rugs to the laundry pile ( see a trend ) ... get out the fan and start drying the basement floors .. 

7:00 -- mom gets up, eats and goes back to bed ... oh joy for her ... I'm still working on work things and still doing laundry .. and SPILL MY FREAKING ICED COFFEE on my cave desk -- more laundry and the adding machine drowned -- it's done ... 

at that point, I took a shower and started to read my book .... 

went to the happy place -- cooked dinner -- mom took another nap -- I tried to nap but the weeds on the beach needed to be pulled -- first round of pulling is done -- will tidy it up a bit tomorrow -- I'm assuming our friends at the DNR would frown if I sprayed round-up that close to the water ... 

6:00 PM .. back to the office to mow the lawn ... because I'm an hour short from my 10 hours of mowing this week -- actually it was too hot to mow this week and well, the job got done

the mowing diva of 3rd street -- I was worried the battery wouldn't hold up .. the grass was long and the crab grass is thick ... it made it ... and I watered all the outdoor plants .. a couple of my hanging baskets are pretty tough looking .. the geraniums are the only things that held up well ... I did a pretty severe pruning on a couple of the petunias -- time will tell ... 

I decided I needed Mc D's and a tour of the construction on the way home ... crossed the street at Mc D's and exited thru Speedway to Old Minnesota .. 

and these buggers were waiting at the neighbors on the way home -- I swooshed them into the brush and away from the highway ... they'd be cute if they didn't grow up to be nasty eating machines.

I think it's time for bed -- and yes, that damn cat is banned from the house .... 

tomorrow is a new day and I hope it is less entertaining than today ...

I was that woman who felt the need to mow lawn in 90' weather last night .. it was cloudy.  Actually it wasn't too bad -- almost two hours later -- I'd been over the hill and back up .. front, back and side yard look a lot less shaggy .. tonight will be the "big" field and the rest of the back yard .. the back acreage can wait until next week ... 

the office will get mowed this afternoon -- 

and since the (%# software is down AGAIN .. I'm sitting here twiddling my thumbs .. this is really starting to piss me off --- 10 hours this week .... 10 hours of lost work time.

I've been a sloth -- 

the Verizon issues of Wednesday kept me at the office until almost 4 -- I went home and needed a nap, it has to be the heat -- then we have the always present debate regarding "supper" .. I attempted a fancy grilled cheese -- and I think I succeeded (bacon, good cheese, fancy bread, butter) .. "company" arrived for a visit and well -- nothing else got done -- which is okay.

the internal 4:30 alarm went off and well, I read my book instead of getting up and working -- I should have at least tossed in a load of laundry but no --- stayed with the book ... 

2023 has to be one of the weirdest weather years .. seriously, snow, rain, ice -- no rain for months, heat and now this shit .. I'm hoping fall is delightful.

I decided yesterday that I would work from home during the heat blasts .. I mean when it's freaking cold we work remotely so why not when it's boiling hot

and it was (still is) nasty shit out there.

tomorrow, Mom has doctor appointment (local) then I have another of the endless county personnel meetings -- hopefully back to the office and more work -- will take the opportunity to leave early again .. after I water the plants and melt

I managed to get thru my tote bag of work, 3 loads of laundry, vac'd the cave and ran the roomba in the bedrooms .. and oh -- I started my day at 4:30 -- laundry, mnpr crud, coffee ... followed by County Board meeting and actual office time.  

I'm fading fast, really really fast -- 

only 2 days of this shit to go....

Hay!  

I called FSA Friday morning for authorization on emergency haying on the CRP acres and w/in 20 minutes had the docu-sign done and we were able to bale.

Friday night Nick was cutting -- and by 3:00 yesterday all was baled and hauling out .. I think they were surprised how much hay they actually got .. 

And the best part -- I won't have to mow these acres this fall .. it was starting to look really shaggy around here ... I am having trouble getting the MF to slow down to snail mode to mow.  Yes, snail mode is part of the "shifting" on it.  So I haven't mowed a lot with the tractor.

It has been however mowing weekend.  Thursday at the office, Friday at the Lake, Saturday (103 heat index) I mowed -- started in the shade and moved with it .. and did quite a bit after supper ... the forecast for the week ahead is brutal ... so 

The plan was to go car shopping with Mom - it was too hot and too hard for her to breathe in it.  

I did manage to move bookcases and dressers into the "den" in preparation for painting and bedroom flooring -- it's going to be a crowded room when the flooring dudes arrive.  Alas, it was the perfect opportunity to purge -- but I didn't purge enough.  The plan is to put furniture together weeknights during the heat spell.  Time will tell.

i left the office at 2:45 Friday afternoon (yesterday) ... first time I've left early for no purpose other than leaving early ..  pre pandemic ... we went to the lake ... because we should

after vac'ing every floor -- scrubbing one .. and mowing the lawn -- pizza went into the oven ... and I hit the shower ... and we enjoyed the night ... 

I even dragged the mower down the steps .. it's still down there ... I can't carry it back up ... or couldn't last night 

it was a beautiful night ...

 

self care

struggling with some issues lately that, well have wiped me out.  until now i don't think i ever understood/realized/empathized with the mental struggles ( self created or externally created) of others

friends, practicing kindness it is important -- so important - sometimes you don't know that your kindness made a difference, but truly it does ... 

i think i'm going on a blogging break for a spell ... life is spiraling a tad -- just crazy busy at the office, the elected gig -- and well, the struggles -- work has always got me thru the tough moments in life and it probably will again ..

another weekend of "stuff"

after the storm rolled thru on Thursday night 

so my Saturdays post tax season are a lot like my Saturdays during tax season

1.    rise early and crunch numbers while washing a load of laundry

2.    go to work and crunch more numbers

3.    mow the grass at the office .

            that was a chore -- the weeds and quack grass have taken over again

4.    home to mow grass at home --- it's all been mowed at least once post rain

5.    pile up "liquids' in the shop for delivery to household hazardous waste -- 

            so far I have 2 tubs, 5 boxes and a bunch of paint cans (w/paint in them)

6.    take shower and wash off the lawn 

7.    head to cabin ( picked up pizza/salad/milk/donuts at Kwik Trip)

8.    sit at cabin and watch the world go by for 5 hours

9.    home to bed

Sundays seem to be a mirror image of Satudays .. with a few deviations.  "Couples" shower for brunch and I'm home working from home -- trying to organize my thoughts and workflow.  Not succeeding at either one ..

County Commissioners, some past, some present and Administrator Mandy had lunch at the fair on Friday -- I also judged herdsmanship and hit up a press junket with R9 and MNPCA .. it was a hot and fill day ... and after supper -- more mowing ( the country clipper and I have become good friends)

I'm getting things done -- hopefully.

 

Life on 3rd

8 hours of continuing education on Wednesday 

why not -- Wednesday's need to be entertaining

I like virtual learning --- I get to multitask ... and I try to have a fun lunch, yesterday I did a Food Coop stop -- always a good choice.

I did manage to clean out most of my desk drawers, this is scarf #2 -- it too was finished ( even the fringe ) .. plants got a good soaking in the sink.  

Kate is off being the 4H mom -- so it was me, the phones and the seminar ..

2023 Farm Tax Updates 

I like to check the cameras at the cabin before I go to bed ... the view is always a treat 

ever notice the routines we get ourselves into ... lately it's checking the shit stuff I have listed for sale on ebay -- old fabric sells, eventually and then I click on over to the crossword puzzle -- seriously ... I need a life.

I looked up yesterday and it was raining

and it started raining harder 

I went out to put my truck in the garage ---- it can get wet, but the box cover isn't very waterproof and I had 4 unassembled bookcases in the box ... so ... 

it was dry in the box but not so much in the front seat ...

a small price to pay for rain

over an inch in less than 20 minutes led to some street flooding

wth -- it rained from the DQ on the north -- to Subway on the south ... dry on top of the west hill and dry 1/2 up the east side   --- seriously WTH  -- mother nature can be evil.

 

so -- when

you can't sleep -- you go to work ... the inbound commute between 5:15 and 5:30 ... it's dark -- I feel like I've missed way to much summer sun and well, not really sure what the hell I've been doing ... 

tonight's project -- tubbing up chemicals/paint and unknowns in the machine shed -- to take to household hazardous waste .. small steps peeps, small steps 

last night I came back to the office to pick up a project or two .. I was going to work but opted to work at home and well, forgot the homework .. so I spot this tractor at the intersection from hell.  I can barely get thru in a car and this dude is on a cab-less tractor .. go for it buddy.

so today's accomplishments -- (so far) -- 2 payrolls, one small one large, projections for a land sale, sorting finished tax returns, amending tax returns, had a two hour zoom continuing ed conference ..  lunch with Mom and the aunties (and uncle) .. back to work -- compressing and fluffy the drawers in our document management system -- the cloud version -- saves space -- space costs $$'s .. watered the outside plants, and answered a zillion emails
