Day Three

bessie loaded with a mixed bunch -- including a hoe -- bug dust -- bug spray ... string from last weeks balloon -- two long sleeve shirts are tied to the front of the roll cage ... the passenger seat has cucumbers on it and the passenger floor has a couple of melons --- it works, I made it home without losing anything.

I am grateful for the time I spend in the patch.  It clears my mind -- feeds the soul -- restores the balance in my wacky world.  I generally enjoy every minute out there (well, except for animal patrol) ..even the weeding -- it's good to see the progress from my hand labor.

I hope the customers that buy from me -- enjoy their produce.  By now I know most of them by face (if not name) ... and I think they know I enjoy my slice of garden.  It is by no means the largest garden or the cleanest garden -- but it's my garden.

I am fortunate -- it is good to play in the dirt.

Top shot -- Friday night in the patch -- 1st picking of the season.  Fine looking watermelons eh!   Bottom shot -- doesn't look like much loaded in the truck .. a couple of large melons a bushel of mini melons, a couple cantaloupe, zucchini, cucumbers and I picked some apples off the tree -- just to even out the weight on the limbs ... there's also a couple of hot peppers in the mix somewhere!  It's jumbled mess -- but a good mess.

Day Two

All things bright and beautiful
All creatures great and small
All things wise and wonderful
The Lord God made them all.

I am thankful for the creatures and critters in my world.  I met this little dude in the squash patch last night.  He was pretty scared -- and well, I would be too -- especially when a Diva is yelling at my mama --- "quit eating my squash" ...

Eventually he hopped off and I kept on my tour of the squash.  The taste testing was minimal.  Again I have to learn not to sweat the small stuff.

Work at the office by 5:16 this morning.  I was awake and have work to finish up before I go play.  The sunrise is spectacular so far ..

Happy Friday - Marie!

Day One

Photo

Lately (frequently) I've been too crabby.  I saw this post on Katie's facebook page yesterday and thought it to be a positive omen.  I have much to be thankful for -- and I occasionally (make that daily) need to kick myself as a reminder.

So for the next week -- I need to share my blessings - sometimes I overlook the little things in life that make me a better person.

So, here goes ---  (drum rolllllllll)

Today I am thankful for -- those goofy noisy geese that fly over in the pre-dawn hours -- return back to the river bottoms and then fly back over just after supper and back again in the early evening darkness.   That's a lot of wing flapping for a treat of rotting sweet corn and slim pickings in the newly combined wheat fields.   It's also a vivid reminder of the changing of the seasons ... the days are shorter, the nights are cooler and the subtle change has begun.

the fog crept in on little cat's feet ...

and the geese flew thru it ....

the waffling quilt ... as in waffling what to do with it ... so I had to go to pick up the Bernina (in Mankato), it's tune up was done!  And Joann Fabric's is next door -- ya, more fabric.  They had their "country classic solids" on sale for $2.99 a yard ... the back is grass green, sky blue and barney purple -- the binding is ready --- green.  I got here shortly after 6:00am --loaded it -- and started quilting.  After the fussy period -- needle issues ... it went fast ... swoops and swirls. .. looks pretty good in person.

it was an oversized jelly roll of Kaffee Fassett (spelling?) prints I picked up on sale on Ebay ... 6" by 42" strips .. about 66" square ...

it is bright and loud.

Undone.

So, here's a recap of this Diva's Monday:

6:00 am  Leave for office -- detour to grocery store for essentials for the week

10:30 am  Do the mad shuffle looking for something that really wasn't missing

11:45am  Midway thru my fabulous salad (lettuce wedge with raspberries, grilled chicken, walnuts and a raspberry vinaigrette dressing) -- interrupted by tax client.

1:30 pm   Found missing 10:30am documents -- delivered to client.  Delivered quilts for charity silent auction and picked up remaining board packet documents.

1:40 pm   Return to office another client wanting something "yesterday" -- back door was open so they got in.

3:30 pm   "I received a letter from the IRS call." --  "I'll be right down"

4:00 pm   Finish typing financial statements for 1:40 client

4:45 pm   "I'll be right down" arrives ..... amid a spot of drama.

5:00 pm   Home for supper -- toss it in, tour the patch and pick a cantaloupe

5:45 pm   Back to the office

7:15 pm   Client and stranger wander thru -- just checking out the long arm sewing machine.

7:30 pm   Brain fart burst and realized the 8/15 deadline for one set of issues was really 9/15 .... argh.

8:15 pm   Finally leave the office .... after 2+ hours of quiet work time.

8:20 pm   Gave the cantaloupe to Wesley at the bar.

9:30 pm   In bed.  the end. amen.

yep, it is a charming glamorous life that this Diva leads.  Today (Tuesday) and tomorrow promise to be more of the same.

Happy Tuesday.

Only on Daisy Lane

loaded for the trek to crafty Friday night -- sewing machine, mini ironing board, quilts to bind and supplies, drink cup, garage door opener, cantaloupe and brownies ... never forget the brownies
I'm not sure -- but I think -- there is 8' of truck box and yet, I managed to squeeze all of this in the passenger seat...

my Saturday trek to the patch included having this float down to greet me ... so I tied it to Bessie and it lasted for a 1/2 mile or so ... not sure of it's point of origin -- but it made me grin.

my Stella apple tree -- first year that we allowed it to bear fruit.  it was a gift from Bill and Nancy -- it is a variety that Bill bred (?) and patented -- can't wait to taste them.  The other 3 trees got attacked by deer and didn't make it ....

front flower tub ... always a hummingbird favorite (and -- no there are none in the picture)

the first watermelon of the season and it's dang tasty!  I did a happy dance in the patch (thankfully the corn field shields the rest of the world from that event)

empty shot gun slugs in the new hosta garden -- hummm more critters. you would think #1 and grandson would pick these up ....  and the picture is upside down.

So, we are more entertaining than reality TV around here -- especially during the skunk chasing moments.  I slept thru the Sunday morning hunt -- at 4:00 am (and raining) and frankly I never heard the shooting (not good)

 ... never a dull.

Market Shots

I'm not at the Market yet, not enough ripeness in my world -- but I generally check in on Saturdays with my camera and then upload pictures to our facebook page -- I attempt to take a picture at every booth ... and some fun random stuff.

Aren't the golden beets fabulous looking --- pickles are fun too ... Danni and her baked goods and the Widmer sisters are always fun.  After 11 years of Market I've had the pleasure of watching the Widmer sisters grow up!

It rained and more is on the way!  Happy Sunday ....
